The Jackson-Milton Blue Jays started the year off on the right foot, defeating the Mathews Mustangs 20-13. The Jays’ passing attack was led by quarterback Jack McDevitt, who completed 2 of 5 pass attempts for 37 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown pass was a 10 yard strike to receiver JJ Fishel. Leo Hines led the Blue Jays with 27 receiving yards. McDevitt was also the Jays’ leading rusher with 133 yards and a touchdown. DJ Osborne also tallied 39 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Jackson-Milton offensive line powered the rushing attack, especially in the 4th quarter, helping the Blue Jays punch in the final touchdown to secure the victory. On defense, DJ Osborne led the Jays with 13 tackles. Carter Headley racked up 10 total tackles, while Eli Handrych made 9 total tackles. Raiden Rossi and Nick Bulow recorded sacks for the Jays. As a unit, the Blue Jays’ defense battled all evening against the Mustangs, shutting down multiple 4th quarter drives to help seal the victory. The Jackson-Milton Blue Jays have their first road test of the season when they travel to Newton Falls for a 7:00 kickoff on Friday, August 29th.
